Michael Mildrum & Focal Point - Observations
This music is best described as “Adult Contemporary” and fits well into that “easy listening” genre. The titles of the songs are reflective of feelings that we had while writing and recording the music. Some are motivated by particular incidents, but most are just songs about life, feelings, memories, love and the celebration of being.
One funny incident was the deciding factor in naming “J’s shades.” My then 2 year old son, Jymard, was sitting in the engineers chair in the studio one day as we worked, and took a pair of way too big sunglasses and put them on his face. They stayed on perfectly, but covered way too much of his eyes. Quite pleased with himself, he looked smugly at Jim and I as if to say “yeah…I’m baaaaad…..” The smooth jazz feeling of the song just screamed the title.
I could not rerelease this music without mentioning Sam James, the wonderful friend and sax player on a number of cuts, and Glen West, who played guitar on some tracks as well. Sam died in a car accident, but his memory lives on for me in the music. I thank my Heavenly Father for his gracious gifts, and any good thing in this work comes from Him. Any mistakes, of course, are mine. Listen and enjoy, live well, and love those around you. There will be more music to come, so check back often. |
